Hispanic American Heritage Month offers visitors opportunity to celebrate

BOSTON- Boston celebrates Hispanic American Heritage Month with the promotion of the Center for Latino Arts in the South End, the 6th Boston Latino Film Festival & more from September 15-October 15, 2007.

· 6th Boston Latino International Film Festival October 12-21, 2007 Last year’s Boston Latino International Film Festival was a success with 300 submissions, narrowed the selection to 83 finalists. The audience increased by another 14%, and in the first weekend alone, the BLFF had three sold-out screenings!. Film Festival locations include the Harvard University Carpenter Center on Quincy Street, MassArt College on Huntington Avenue & the Center for Latino Arts on West Newton Street in Boston’s South End. · Boston’s La Casa de la Cultura/Center for Latino Arts (CLA) 85 East Newton Street South End La Casa de la Cultura / Center for Latino Arts (CLA) is Boston’s cutting-edge multi-functional community arts center whose mission is to preserve and promote Latino art. Conveying to both Latinos and non-Latinos the vitality of contemporary and traditional Latino cultural expressions, the Center offers performances, exhibits and classes in a variety of art forms, including: Latin jazz, folk dance and music, poetry, theater and the visual arts. The CLA combines the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center (converted into a 450-person capacity performance venue from a historic church in 1986) with a new community arts center (historically renovated from the adjacent parish house in 2003) that includes a gallery, dance studio and visual arts studio.Celebrating Boston's growing diversity, the Center for Latino Arts is taking shape as a new landmark in the city that will transcend Villa Victoria and the Latino community and become a fixture engraved into the cultural life of Boston as a whole. La Casa de la Cultura / Center for Latino Arts is a program of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA).

· After having pioneered the Salsa scene in Boston, El Bembé now offers a unique music and dance experience featuring a “Pan-American Dance Party” in which dancers and music lovers can enjoy a wider variety of styles from different parts of Latin America, in addition to Salsa and Merengue Friday October 12, 2007: Dance Party…Dominican style! 9:00 p.m. Complimentary Dance Lesson, 10:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. Dance Party and Live Performance
· CaféTeatro , New England’s only Latino performance series featuring some of the best local, regional, national and international Latino artists, from the traditional to the contemporary including music, dance, theatre and film/video will present NOCHE CUBANA 0n October 25, 2007 8:00 pm. Hosted by Alberto Vasallo Jr. and El Mundo
· Noche Cubana will present traditions and styles, from the age-old religious music and dance of Santería, Abakuá and Palo to the secular Rumba, to the European-influenced Danzón and Cha-Cha-Chá, to the rural Changüí and Son Montuno, to the luscious Boleros from the “Filin” era and more! Don’t miss this Boston premiere and a unique cultural experience “con sabor a Cuba”!
· At the Museum of Fine Arts : Hamaca Paraguaya by Paz Encina, Sep 6–13. In a hammock in the Paraguayan countryside, a mature couple sits together talking, drinking tetere, and waiting for their beloved son to return from the ruinous Chaco War with Bolivia. Part of the New Crowned Hope series.In concert: Boston Museum Trio with Gonzalo Ruiz: The Baroque Oboe 3:30 pm Sunday, September 16, 2007 Remis Auditorium The Boston Museum Trio is joined by Gonzalo Ruiz on baroque oboe to perform a program of masterworks by Bach, Telemann, and Buxtehude. Equally accomplished on the modern instrument, he has performed as principal oboist of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Members, seniors, students $20; nonmembers, general admission $25.
