Boston Ballet will embark on a six-week tour of Spain in July, 2007, a trip that will take the Company to six festivals in various regions of the country. Boston Ballet will travel to Las Palmas, Madrid, Santander, Peralada, Mallorca and San Sebastian, and present two programs: Sorella Englund’s staging of August Bournonville’s La Sylphide, and an all-Balanchine bill made up of Serenade, Who Cares?, and The Four Temperaments. The tour opens on July 20 with two performances at the Auditorio de Tenerife in Tenerife, and then proceeds to the Festival of Theater and Dance in Las Palmas, capital city of Gran Canaria, third largest of the Grand Canary Islands. The Company then moves on to the Madrid Summer Festival for four performances at the open air Sabatini Gardens, beginning August 1. The tour continues on the northern coast of Spain at the International Festival of Santander, with three performances at Festival Hall beginning on August 8. Then it’s on to the Castell de Peralada International Music Festival on August 14 for two performances at the open air Castle Gardens Auditorium, located on the grounds of a fourteenth-century castle. Peralada is situated between Figueres and the Costa Brava in the Alt Empordà region, about 90 miles from Barcelona. >From there, Boston Ballet travels to the island of Mallorca for one performance at the Season of Ballet of Mallorca on August 18. The tour concludes in the Basque country of San Sebastian at the Quincena Musical Festival, where performances begin on August 21, 2007. Details
Handel & Haydn Society performance in London on July 23, 2007 :first ever participation in BBC Proms Festival
Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society Chorus and Period Instrument Orchestra will perform at the 2007 BBC Proms Festival in London July 23, 2007 at the renowned Royal Albert Hall. A large contingent of 90 singers and instrumentalists join Handel and Haydn's Artistic Advisor Sir Roger Norrington to perform The Seasons, Franz Joseph Haydn's glorious choral masterwork. The performance will be broadcast live on BBC television and BBC Radio 3, and streamed via the BBC website for up to seven days. Details
Boston Symphony Orchestra in seven city Europe Tour: August 23-Sept. 8, 2007
The Boston Symphony Orchestra embarks on its first international tour under BSO Music Director James Levine – a two week, seven-city European tour from August 26 to September 7 that includes performances in Switzerland, Germany, France, and Great Britain. With the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and a cast of internationally acclaimed soloists, the orchestra will perform music of Brahms, Ives, Carter, Ravel, Bartók, and Berlioz. The BSO will begin their 2007 tour – their first European tour in six years – on August 23 and return on September 8, with performances in Lucerne (August 26-28), Hamburg (August 30), Essen (August 31), Düsseldorf (September 1), Berlin (September 3), Paris (September 4), and London (September 6-7). Boston Celtics Oct. 6-7, 2007 Italy: NBA Europe Live 2007
The Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors will hold their training camps in Rome and Treviso, Italy in October and play exhibition games in the Italian capital as part of NBA Europe Live presented by EA SPORTS™, the NBA, Euroleague Basketball and Lottomatica Roma. The Boston Celtics will head to Rome to conduct training camp at the PalaLottomatica during the first week of October and play an exhibition game against the Toronto Raptors at the arena on Saturday, October 6, 2007 whilst the Toronto Raptors will conduct training camp in Treviso before their match up with the Celtics at the PalaLottomatica on Oct 6 and Lottomotica Roma on Sunday, October 7, 2007 . The Boston Celtics will be led by five-time NBA All-Star Paul Pierce and NBA Legend Robert Parish. Tickets for NBA Europe Live in Italy were scheduled to be on sale in May 2007. Details
The phenomenally popular “Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination,” developed by the Museum of Science, Boston, in collaboration with Lucasfilm (Oct. 2005-April 2006 ) tours next in Chicago at the Museum of Science & Industry Oct. 5-Jan. 6, 2008. Next: Franklin Institute Philadelphia, February-April 2008 & Science Museum of Minnesota June-October 2008. The historic exhibition was the first exhibition to display costumes and props from all six Star Wars films with real-world technologies.
“Printed Treasures: Highlights from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston at Nagoya, Japan Museum of Fine Arts: Jan. 2-April 6, 2008 : The ukiyo-e collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston comprises about 50,000 woodblock prints, along with printed books and paintings. Recognized as among the greatest in the world, most of the collection was not published or exhibited until quite recently. The splendid world of ukiyo-e as represented by some 120 items, including woodblock prints, paintings and printed books, many of which are displayed for the first time in Japan.
“ Drama and Desire: Japanese Paintings from the Floating World, 1690–1850” is drawn from the unrivaled holdings of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and features 67 masterpieces by such renowned artists as Hokusai, Utamaro, and Harunobu. The exhibition traveled to the Kimbell in Fort Worth Texas this spring, was presented at the Royal Ontario Museum this summer . It will be presented in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston August 27–December 16, 2007. In 2008 it will travel to the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
