"Buy Local, Drink Global" is the mantra for the North of Boston Wine Week, taking place September 8 - 15, 2013, when restaurants throughout Boston's North Shore celebrate with special wine events.  The Grand Cafe at Emerson Inn by the Sea will participate as an official participant with a five course tasting menu and wine dinner on September 9, 2013. 

One seating will take place for this special dinner, starting at 6:30pm.  The cost is $95 per person plus tax and gratuity.  The wine dinner will offer five elegantly served courses paired with appropriate California and international wines.  Foods featured will include local produce from Seaview Farm (Rockport, MA), Lindley Farms (Essex, MA) as well as artisan cheeses from Maplebrook Farms (Benington, VT).  Additionally, the menu includes craft-raised premium salmon from Skuna Bay, Vancouver  at award-winning charcuterie from La Quercia.  Maureen MacDonald, Head Vintner and Cassidy Hill Vineyards, will be present to offer insight into the special wines selected.

Guests will enjoy the following menu:

FIRST COURSE: MAPLEBROOK FARMS BURRATA

Warm heirloom tomato salad with micro basil and La Quercia prosciutto in an 18-yr aged Balsamico,  tomato water vinaigrette paired with Cinsault Syrah Rose, Laurent Miquel, Pere et Fils, 2011 (Languedoc, France)

SECOND COURSE: HOUSE-CURED SKUNA BAY SALMON GRAVLAX

Rocket arugula, Lemon Extra Virgin Olive Oil, caper berries,  dill crème fraiche and Wellfleet sea salt paired with a Pinot Blanc, Steele, 2006 (Santa Barbara, California)

THIRD COURSE: LOBSTER & CRAB DUO

Butter-poached lobster, Jonah crab, roasted corn, mussel & chorizo chowder with a  squid ink risotto, paired with Chardonnay, Merryvale "Starmont," 2009 (Napa, California)

FOURTH COURSE: LAMB LOIN CHOP

Lamb loin chop,  black garlic demi glace,  curry cauliflower puree and ginger carrot jus lie, paired with a Syrah Blend, Rosemount Show Reserve "GSM," 2006 (Australia)

FIFTH COURSE: PORT-POACHED STONE FRUIT

Peaches, plums, apricots & cherries,  port wine reduction, honey-thyme mascarpone and a cookie crumble, paired with Port, Quinta do Noval, Single Vineyard Late Bottled Vintage, 2005 (Portugal).
