A Paper Orchestra Concert with Conservatory Lab Charter School Kindergartners
Wednesday, April 16
After intensive research into four instruments of the string family, the kindergartners of the Conservatory Lab Charter School build their own orchestra. With their families' help, students construct violins, violas, cellos and basses out of cardboard, glue and papier-maché. They learn about instrument position and orchestral etiquette. The paper orchestra concert is a presentation of these new skills as well as an important rite of passage, after which all students will graduate to real instruments!

April in the Japanese House. 桜 Make a paper sakura cherry blossom screen
April is the season of cherry blossoms. In Japan, people enjoy Hanami, a party under the cherry blossoms. Friends and family get together, have picnics, sing songs, share poetry, and play games.
In the Japanese House this month, you can share spring traditions, learn about the Japanese spring tradition of Hanami (flower-viewing) and Sakura (cherry blossoms) and create a Byobu paper screen.
