Bridges and Locks of the Charles River of Classic Harbor Line

Hop aboard Beacon for this exciting river cruise through the bridge and lock system of the Charles River. Be amazed by the Charles River Locks, a system originally invented by the Chinese in the 10th Century. Sit back and relax on this informative, narrated, crowd-free cruise through the Charles River Lock System and under Charles River bridges while in close proximity to Boston's tallest buildings. Highlights on this 1.75 hour cruise (please note: on some occasions this trip may extend an additional 15 minutes due to bridge openings) Cruise by the North End and catch a glimpse of the Old North Church made famous by the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. Pass by the U.S.S. Constitution and hear how she got the nickname "Ironsides." Experience the Charles River Locks. Marvel at the construction of Leonard B. Zakim Bridge. Watch the B & M Railroad Bridge opening, the only bridge that needs to open for us. We will also cruise under the Craigie Bridge, Longfellow Bridge (Salt & Pepper Bridge), and Prison Point Bridge. Cruise through the waters of the Charles River and check out the shore side landmarks such as: MIT, the Hatch Shell, Boston's tallest building the John Hancock Tower (50th tallest building in the U.S.), and the Prudential Tower located in Boston's Back Bay. Get the up-to-date weather report from atop the old John Hancock building, now the Berkley Building, which started forecasting the weather in 1950 and inspired a famous poem. Steady blue, clear view Flashing blue, clouds due Steady red, rain ahead Flashing red, snow instead (except in the summer, when it means the Red Sox game is canceled) The Beacon offers wraparound seating, adult beverages that are available for purchase (cash only, please), an impeccably clean bathroom, and stunning views! Be out in the sun on the open back deck or bow and find comfortable seating in the shade at midship.
