Mayor Thomas M. Menino, The Boston Parks Department, and The Friends of Copley Square will host the city’s first tree lighting of the season at the annual Copley Square Holiday Tree Lighting on Monday, December 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The festive holiday tradition will feature live entertainment, and of course, Santa will pay a special visit to Copley Square. Immediately following the tree lighting, The Fairmont Copley Plaza will host a family reception for all in attendance.
In addition to the tree lighting, a number of festivities will take place in and around Copley Square on December 2. The Boston Public Library and The Catered Affair will host a Story Time and Candy Cane Tea at The Guastavino Room in the library at 4:00 p.m. The event is complimentary, but reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 617-859-2282. And, from 4:30 p.m. to the lighting, Copley Square will become a spot for family revelry with balloon artists, stilt walkers, and festive music provided by Magic 106.7.
Lighting for the Copley Square holiday tree is made possible through a generous donation by Boston Properties. The Holiday Tree Lighting events are free and open to the public.
