Evening Concerts

Beethoven Triple

Saturday, September 28, 2013, 8:00 PM

Emmanuel Church

The Egmont Overture, an impassioned cry of freedom and victory, begins a concert that features the composer's expansive and experimental Triple Concerto, the monumental concert scene and aria Ah! Perfido, and a selection of vocal duets and trios with orchestral accompaniment. more. . .

Sondheim: A Little Night Music

Saturday, January 18, 8 PM; Sunday, January 19, 3 PM

Boston Conservatory Theater

Stephen Sondheim's brilliant work is a cynical, sentimental, scabrous sex comedy in which couples fall noisily apart and re-configure themselves, possibly for the better. The lovers' struggles provoke plenty of witty commentary from the characters who are too young, too old, or too wise to participate in the madness. Ryan Turner conducts and Lynn Torgove directs this semi-staged production of one of the great 20th century operettas.  more. . .

Handel: Susanna

Saturday, April 5, 2014, 7:30 PM

Emmanuel Church

Emmanuel Music presents the Boston premiere of Handel's oratorio Susanna. This late work, composed two years before Handel's death, tells the story of Susanna and the Elders, a tale of faith, virtue, and justice. This allegory of the chaste matron, the corrupt judges, and the boy prophet Daniel who exposes their hypocrisy, symbolizes God's protection of his faithful in adversity. Handel's orchestral writing teems with natural phenomena: birds, beasts, breezes, floods, and of course, the rich inner world of its virtuous steadfast heroine. more . . .
