Oops. This event is over, but we have plenty of more great events coming up on our calendar.

  • April 21, 2014 - April 21, 2014

Join us in learning how the start of the Revolutionary War affected a small New England community, a highlight of special school vacation week events.

See a recreation of the "alarm of 1775" when the Meetinghouse bell will ring and the Sturbridge militia will muster on the Common.

Other special events include fife and drum music throughout the day and musket ball-making demonstrations. Visitors can also create a Revolutionary War musket cartridge in the Craft Center (for a small fee).

Meet the men on both sides of the Revolution. A minuteman and a loyalist will talk about their differences - from uniforms to philosophy. Learn about the role of women during the war during "These patriots wore dresses."

Young visitors are invited to learn how to drill and march with muskets on the Common, using instructions from the official 1776 drill manual.

All visitors can make their own paper "tri-corn" hat and see Revolutionary War weapons forged at the Blacksmith Shop.
