Population: 24,194 (2000)
Two rail stations-Waverley and Belmont Center on the MBTA Commuter Rail-are located in the town. Nearby in Cambridge lies Alewife Station (Red Line).

Belmont today, with a population of 25,349, is almost entirely residential and is known as "The Town of Homes."  Original the town included a part of present day Cambridge including half of Fresh Pond.

Notable Residents:
Former Massachusetts Governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney and his wife Ann Romney. Tom Bergeron - Radio and TV personality. Major League catcher/Hall of Famer, Red Sox and White Sox Carlton Fisk.
