Begins: Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Ends: Sunday, April 7, 2013

Mickalene Thomas is known for her vibrant, rhinestone-adorned paintings of African American women. Drawing on references from art history and popular culture, Thomas's work introduces a complex vision of female sexuality, beauty, and power. Her most recent work includes a series of fractured interiors and landscapes, which for Thomas, are further explorations of the body and nature.

These paintings begin with photographs of staged tableaux which are then collaged using patterns and styles that reference a 1970s aesthetic. This exhibition explores the development and process of her work, and focuses on the artist's use of specific motifs.
