Welcome back to our Boston Neighborhoods Blog!

Where we tell you all about the most interesting and authentic experiences awaiting you outside the city center. In this edition we explore the areas of West Roxbury and Roslindale, easily accessible aboard the commuter rail and definitely doable as a one-day excursion.

The Needham Line is easy to catch from South Station or Back Bay, and within 15 minutes you’ll arrive at Roslindale Village, a vibrant epicenter of rich culture, great restaurants and cafes, small businesses, and fun festivals.  From farmers markets to Open Studios, events in Roslindale showcase the unique character of that community.  Roslindale also hosts an annual Halloween Party, followed in December by a Holiday Market, so there are events throughout the year – ongoing and annual – that encapsulate what this neighborhood is all about. Head over early in the day to grab breakfast or lunch at Blue Star.  If you are there for an evening meal try Sophia’s Grotto or the Birch Street Bistro, convivial haunts offering delectable dishes.  Need a chic café? Slip into the Square Root on Corrinth St. Wherever you go, share the #ROSLOVE so other folks – visitors and locals alike – understand all that Roslindale has to offer.

Hop back on the Needham Line and in 5 minutes you’ll arrive in West Roxbury.  West Roxbury has a neighborhood business district that runs from Centre Street to Spring Street and reveals the essence of the neighborhood – an eclectic mix of independently-owned shops and restaurants, ethnic markets, and fun pubs.  Relax within the area’s tranquil green space or stop by the beautiful West Roxbury branch of the Boston Public Library.  If you’re hungry and looking for traditional American fare, step into cozy restaurants like West on Centre or Porter Café for a burger and a beer.  Is your palate more international?  The Himalayan Bistro will not disappoint!  Or just mosey into community staples at the Corrib Pub & Restaurant or Rox Diner.  Feeling more recreational?  Meander along the paths and trails winding through the Brook Farm Historic Site, originally founded in the 1840s and inspired by the Transcendentalist Movement that began in Massachusetts.

Make a day out of it in West Roxbury and Roslindale.  Nestled just southwest of Jamaica Plain, these neighborhoods are easy to get to.  They are quaint and creative communities with an amazing array of assets that make them compelling for anyone looking for a fun and immersive Boston experience.
