Creative chefs will be incorporating plenty of to-die-for, local fruit into their menus for the summer version of Dine Out Boston, the highly anticipated, re-jiggered culinary event formerly known as Restaurant Week. One of the reasons to savor DOB (apart from the tremendous value it offers) is that the three-course, fixed-price meals include dessert. Talk about sweet spots! Let's explore some of the desserts that will be available at participating DOB restaurants.
Top off your meal at Tremont 647 in the South End with either Inverted Blackberry Cobbler or Cherry Hand Pies served with peach ice cream. Are you drooling yet? Over at Grill 23 in the Back Bay, DOB diners have a choice of Summer Berry Bread Pudding with crème fraiche ice cream and coconut streusel, Chocolate Zucchini Cake with peach butter and dark chocolate graham rocher, or Peach Cobbler with bourbon ice cream and ginger caramel. Somebody pass me a napkin.
Still hungry for more? How about Grotto in Beacon Hill? Sweet endings to DOB feasts include Mixed Berries served with Zabaglione (Italian custard) and Panna Cotta with raspberry sauce, crispy pizzelle, and aged balsamic. The Met Back Bay will offer Peach and Blackberry Cobbler with biscuit topping and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Fruit plays a major role in one of the Met's appetizers as well: Watermelon Carpaccio with heirloom peach and tomatoes, burrata, and smoked ham cracklin'. Sweet!
Dine Out Boston will be held August 17 to 22 and 24 to 29, 2014. Prices vary by restaurant. Find out which eateries are participating at the official Dine Out Boston site. Reservations are highly recommended.
