Fairmont Copley Plaza and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston have a long and storied shared history. Not only does Fairmont Copley Plaza sit on the original site of the museum, but the hotel also served as the haunt for some of the most famous artists featured in the MFA. One of the most renowned of these artists is John Singer Sargent, who was known for his provocative paintings, such as the infamous portraits of “Madame X” and Boston’s very own Isabella Stewart Gardner, in the early 20th century. Sargent even used a Fairmont Copley Plaza employee as a model for the murals that cover the museum’s lower rotunda.
