National Braille Press (NBP) will host its “A Million Laughs for Literacy” Gala on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel. Haben Girma, Harvard Law School’s first Deafblind graduate will be the featured speaker at this year’s gala. Girma is an internationally acclaimed accessibility leader and has been recognized as a White House “Champion of Change,” Forbes 30 under 30 leader and BBC Women of Africa Hero. During the gala, NBP will also honor two legendary pioneers in the field of accessibility for the blind with the “Hands On” Award: Joe Sullivan, founder of Duxbury Systems of Westford, Mass., and Deane Blazie, founder of Maryland Computer Services and Blazie Engineering. This year’s Gala theme is “Back to the Future.”


The gala is co-chaired by Tom Sullivan, Founder of Lumber Liquidators and Danny Hirce, SVP at State Street Corporation. “A Million Laughs for Literacy” also features a performance by legendary stand-up comedian and Massachusetts native Jack Gallagher, known for his own ABC sitcom “Bringing Up Jack” as well as a recurring role on the HBO original series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
