The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), presents the second-annual Boston Festival of Films from Japan, screening February 1–28. The vibrant showcase of the very best recent films produced in Japan is made possible through a 10-year partnership with UNIQLO USA.
The festival kicks off on February 1 with a free screening of Mari Okada's breathtaking anime Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018), co-presented with Anime Boston. The opening night celebration will also feature Japanese music and Japanese snacks available for purchase at Taste Café.
Additional highlights of this year's selections include Hirokazu Kore-ada's poignant family drama Shoplifters (2018), winner of the top prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, and Masaaki Yuasa's animated adventure The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl (2017), which screens on Valentine's Day.
Tickets for the festival go on sale on January 24 at 10 am. Free tickets for the February 1 screening of Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms will be available on January 30 at 10 am.
Screeners for all the films are available by request.
