On October 6, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), hosts the Boston premiere of A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF), a juried global competition for cutting-edge fashion films founded by renowned fashion critic and video journalist Diane Pernet. This year's winning selections will be showcased in a 60-minute screening, followed by a discussion between Pernet and Michelle Finamore, the MFA's Penny Vinik Curator of Fashion Arts.
Since its launch in 2008, ASVOFF has gained critical acclaim for encouraging both emerging and established artists to reconsider the way that fashion is presented and for challenging the conventional parameters of film. ASVOFF debuts in Paris during Fashion Week and tours the globe with subsequent screenings at prestigious institutions and events like the Barbican, the Guggenheim and Cannes Film Festival. Genre-bending and groundbreaking, ASVOFF has already brought together such illustrious names as Chris Cunningham, Tilda Swinton, Mike Figgis, Chloë Sevigny, and Yves Saint Laurent.
An additional screening will take place at the MFA on October 8.
A Shaded View on Fashion Film is part of #mfaNOW, a season celebrating contemporary art and artists.
