GenNext (Generation Next) 2 Drummer Big Band
Ralph Peterson became a Jazz Messenger in March of 1983 at a concert that was part of the then Boston Globe Festival. Ralph was chosen by Art Blakey, to perform with him in his 2 Drummer Jazz Messenger Big Band. Peterson held the post until Mr. Blakey’s passing in 1990. Now a bandleader and educator of over 30 years and having been instrumental in the launching of careers for Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, Justin Faulkner, Orrin Evans and many more, Peterson now lives the Jazz Messenger tradition of mentoring young musicians, serving as a launch point for their careers. These two threads of this multi faceted artist come together in the RP Gen-Next (Generation Next) 2 Drummer Big Band. This band was born at Berklee College of Music where Professor Peterson teaches drumming and ensembles. The Big Band is made of up of the best and brightest young musicians from Berklee and also features the 2 drummer format where Peterson is now the senior statesman and the young drummers follow his cues in the Blakey style..... This event is the CD release for the CD entitled I Remember Bu, with very special guest, Kuumba Frank Lacy.
