Faneuil Hall Marketplace will be transformed into an outdoor movie theatre in August and September with FREE movies on the West End of the property.
The series kicks off with The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Thursday, August 10th. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest running theatrical release in film history, as it is still in limited release more than 40 years after its initial release.
As an added bonus, Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta in the movie, will make an appearance before the start of the film. Quinn performed in the original stage production in London and subsequently appeared in the film version that was released in 1975. Quinn’s appearance is courtesy of Boston Comic Con, where she will be a special guest all three days at of the convention, August 11 – 13 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
The movie event will also feature a special appearance by Full Body Cast, one of the longest running “shadowcasts.” They have been performing at The Rocky Horror Picture Show since 1984 and currently appear every Saturday night at the 11 p.m. show at Boston AMC Loews Theater.
The film screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show is free and open to the public. There is cabaret-style seating with café tables and chairs. Before the movie starts, guests can walk the “red carpet” to the music of the movie’s era and take photos with cut-outs of the characters.
Guests may also pre-purchase dinner (at least 24 hours in advance) from various restaurants and food merchants at the Marketplace and enjoy their food while watching the movie. You can also win tickets to Blue Man Group and the new Dreamland Wax Museum at City Hall Plaza. All of the movies in the series are rated PG-13.
Additional movie musicals will run every Thursday night in August while cult classics will be shown every Friday night in September.
