Boston Harborfest

Celebrate Independence Day

The 38 year old Harborfest is always the best birthday party in the country! What better place to celebrate the nation’s independence than on the streets and rooms where it happened?

There are many activities over Independence Day weekend at Boston’s best landmarks, making this the largest family-friendly event in the country.

Colonial era reenactments, a short speaking program and the traditional cutting of the cake kick off the party on July 2. Monday through Wednesday visitors and guests will be entertained by local musical artists and curated works by local visual artists in Downtown Crossing. A festival favorite is the return of Chowderfest! Taste free samples from area restaurants and cast your vote for Boston’s best chowda!

The Official Independence Day Commemoration is on July 4, beginning with the flag raising ceremony at City Hall Plaza followed by a parade and wreath laying at the Granary Burial Ground and continuing to the Old State House for the annual 243rd reading of the Declaration of Independence.
