Boston Lyric Opera is the largest opera company in New England. It creates musically and theatrically compelling productions, events, and educational resources for the Boston community and beyond. Since its founding in 1976, the company has staged world and U.S. premieres, notable co-productions and co-commissions with organizations such as The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and Scottish Opera, and continues to be a destination for some of the world’s leading artists, conductors, directors and designers.
BLO announces a (mostly) digital 2020/21 Season reboot anchored by operabox.tv, a newly created streaming service that becomes its national digital hub on a web portal and through Android TV, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV services.
Content coming this season includes genre-breaking commissions from rising opera stars like 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Emily Reid, two projects helmed by opera and theater director James Darrah, and opera-inspired music and video content by video designer Greg Emetaz, in collaboration with veteran theater designer and BLO Artistic Advisor John Conklin.
Operabox.tv will feature free access to web content from its "[insert:opera]" platform and live content from the "BLO Street Stage," a specially built vehicle bringing music to neighborhoods around the city and the region. Digital subscriptions start at $79 -- about the price of one average opera ticket.
