Robust growth in Chinese visitation has driven the increase in international visitors, as has Massport's success in winning direct, nonstop services to new international destinations.  Boston Logan International Airport now offers direct service to 56 international locations.

Chinese visitors grew by over 700% between 2007 and 2017.

Chinese visitors accounted for 38% of overseas expenditures in 2017, spending on average over $5,000 per visit.

Chinese visitors stayed on average 9.7 days in Boston-area hotels and 19.1 days in Boston.

Since 2013 the percentage of Chinese visitors of overall overseas visitors has nearly doubled, from 7.5% to 14.7%.  A decade ago, in 2007, Chinese visitors represented less than 3% of overall overseas visitors.

While overseas visitors only represent 8% of overall visitation to Boston they account for nearly 15% of tourism spending. Chinese visitors account for nearly 40% of overseas expenditures, so almost 6% of all visitor spending.
